This rich composition and arrangement by Sami Yusuf provides us with a divine zephyr of tales from great mystics, such as Mansur ibn al-Hallaj of the Islamic world to Hildegard von Bingen, a torchbearer of the Christian mystical tradition. Moving the listener from one musical and mystical tradition to another, the recitation of Turkish words by Kayugus, Arabic mawwal by Abu al-Hasan al-Shushtari, and Gregorian incantations provide a timeless experience. The fusion of various musical traditions in this melody recounts the story of a love that is neither bound to the east nor west. The composition is performed in the Aeolian with allusions to traditional Andalusian modes.
